About

Atman Nityananda
I was born in 1962 at a small village in North Greece. Ever since I was young, I was interested in spiritual matters, metaphysical phenomena and psychology. In 1981, I studied sports and physical education at Aristoteles University in Thessaloniki and for twenty years I worked as physical education teacher in primary schools, high schools and the Dimokrition University of Thrace.

My spiritual journey
In 1991 I twice had a very strong experience of the presence of God. Everything became alive and vibrating. After these experiences and for ten years I participated in Self-Knowledge courses in Athens organized by the Universal Gnostic Movement. During that time I also studied the teachings of Uspensky, Omraam Aivanhov and a variety of books about spirituality, psychology, and natural healing.

Meeting my beloved master Haidakhan Babaji
In 2002, I went on pilgrimage to the Himalayas (India) where I visited the ashram of Haidakhan Babaji, who became my beloved master and played the most crucial role in my spiritual journey. Since then I started intense sadhana following the instructions of Sri Babaji as well as the instructions of Swami Sivananda. For seven  years during summer time I did sadhana at Babaji's ashram at Haidakhan Vishva Mahadam, at Anandapuri ashram at chilianaula-Ranikhet and also at Swami Sivananda's ashram in Rishikesh. Later I was attracted to do sadhana at the sacred hill of Arunachala and the ashram of Sri Ramana Maharshi. In these three places I did the most important part of my sadhana having the great help of the powerful divine vibrations which permeate the atmosphere.

I followed an integral yoga sadhana, including a great variety of spiritual practices. Karma yoga, bhakti yoga, mantra yoga, tantra yoga, raja yoga, jnana yoga and other modern methods were all part of this yoga of synthesis.

A call to Advaita
In 2006, I had a great attraction for the teachings of Advaita Vedanta which started with the AdiSankaracharya’s book ‘Vivekachudamani’ which is my favorite one together with the book "I Am That" of Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj. I studied and I did reflection in the teachings of great advaita sages like Sri Ramana Maharshi, Swami Sivananda, Sri Nisargadatta, Chimayananda and various traditional advaita texts like Upanishads, Avadhuta gita, Ashtavakra gita, Baghavad gita, Ribu Gita and other.
I also studied western Advaita teachers like Echkart Tolle, Adyashanti, as well as the teachings of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother, as well as Nikodimos Agioritis (a great saint of Orthodox monasticism and pioneer of Philocalic renaissance) and Greek philosophers.
In 2008 awakening happened in an unexpected moment, due to Self-enquiry and reflection on Nisargadatta’s teachings of his book ‘I Am That’.
